Hi Everyone I hope A happy St Patricks Day was had by all. I had a broad question about purchasing korean swords. How many diffrent types of jingums does the federation offer? I have been told that there are a few. Is there a catalog or some way to see what variety there is to choose from? I would just like to know what my options are so I can begin putting money away. Also I found this web site that offerrs authentic Korean swords and I was wondering if anyone had heard of them here is there web address . Again happy St Particks day to all

Hey, Joe!!
This is the same website that Anthony originally posted in the 'marketplace' thread, then removed. Before you buy, please read this thread:

Thanks Ann , I wasnt entirely sure if that was the website in question since the actual link to the site is no longer there. I just wanted to check. Do you have any idea of how many diffrent models the federation offers? I have heard of the dragon sword, tiger sword and ox and plow I believe. But I have heard that there are several more, but I wasnt certain I though someone had posted some of the diffrent models somewhere here but I couldnt find the post if it was there.

If I remember correctly, there were five different models of jingums being displayed by The Federation last summer at the "Special Training" seminar during the world championships stint. The lowest quality model had a funky green colored scabbard and we were told that The Federation was not pushing that model even though it was still available. The dragon model is supposedly their highest quality jingum. I use one and I must say that I like it if for no other reason than it is a very forgiving sword. Unfortunately, I haven't had the opportunity to use any of the other models, so I can't compare.
I think it would be great if The Federation would set it up so that during the next touring round accompanying the 2006 world championships students would be afforded the opportunity to inspect, sample, and inquire about the different models. Also, have the manufacturer offer a class in sword cleaning and maintenace. It would only help with the promotion of The Federation sponsored jingums and I think more potential buyers would feel more comfortable making a purchase from them.
Joe, when are you going to visit us at Chung's Martial Arts in Bel Air? We're in The Festival shopping center on Rt. 24. Stop in and say hi sometime. HDGD classes are held on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 8 - 9.

Three models from WHDGDF
Dragon, $2,000
Tiger, $1,500
Bamboo, $1,000
****Disclaimer: The prices above are suggested prices from WHDGDF but they could vary depending on customs tax, local tax, different shipping charges, etc.

Brian, are those prices USD or CND? A friend back home bought his Dragon for $1600USD. He might've gotten some sort of deal though...
I really wish they'd give us more information on the WHDGDF sworrds.

Master Gihm, can you shed some light on the differences between the three models and the price differences? Is it simply a matter of the quality of the steel?

I don't know about the steel's quality, but the fittings are beautiful on the dragon sword. They even have a dragon etched into the first 6 inches of the blade, nearest guard.

Mr.Rogers,
To be honest, I have no idea about their differences other than that they have difference finishing.
It is a question for master Kim Jeong Woo, I think

I wonder if the Federation has ever considered establishing a HDGD Federation sword production facility here in the Unitesd States or in other countries. In this way they could ensure that students are getting top of the line blades and maybe at the same time it could cut the prices down, at least with shipping, for studentsworld wide. And Personally I would be very interested to see the korean sword making process first hand.

Casey, wasn't the tiger sword the straw cutting blade? I defininately remember one of the swords being promoted as "lighter, faster, sharper". I love my dragon sword but I like straw cutting for the artistry so I am seriously considering getting the straw sword also. I would like to see a few customization choices (fittings, scabbard color). Does anyone else remember that beautiful poster from about 5 or 6 years ago with something like a dozen swords?!!

Cheri, someone else at the cutting seminar said the same thing - that one of the federation's jingums is a samgakdo. So, you may be right. I'd like to obtain one also.
