Frequently Asked Questions and Important, But Not So Frequently Asked Questions

1) How do I become a member of this forum?

Register. Use your real name. There are several levels of membership. Join, post, see what happens.

2) I actually study HDGD, how do I become a member?

Register. Use your real name. Contact the Admin with information about where, and with whom, you train. Post messages, see what happens.

3) Why would I want to be a member of this forum?

The membership of this forum is international, with members hailing from 13 different countries at last count. Pioneers in bringing HDGD to these countries are members. The forum has a siginificant online history and a very large log of information. There are a variety of colorful characters present - yet this forum still remains one of the more positive, helpful, and respectul online meeting places of martial artists on the internet.

4) I read something about Haidong Gumdo on the internet. Is it true?

In my experience with the internet, lots and lots of people want information to be free. Some even claim that information itself wants to be free. I see no indication yet that information wants to be accurate.

I'm confident that participating at this site will help you sort out the answer to your question.

5) Where can I buy instructional material so I can teach myself Haidong Gumdo?

Nowhere. Our mentors in this art would like us to build personal relationships with our fellows and learn from them directly. The side-effect of this is that not everyone has access to our art. Perhaps someday that will change in one way or another.

6) Kumdo is Kendo!

Hey, thanks for clearing that up for us! You know, we were really, really worried about that until you came along and showed us the error of our ways.

After you have had a chance to become familiar with what is here, I believe that is a question you will need to answer for yourself. Originally the site was designed to help students who had difficulty communicating with their instructors because of language and cultural barriers, but it has grown beyond that over the years and has a lot of material the instroduction of which some instructors might prefer to regulate for themselves in their own dojang.

In other respects, I think this site can be really helpful for those students whose learning type requires verbal and written components for progress.
