I had watched the movie " Sword In the Moon". I saw one of the character used the straight double edge sword which is quite similar to Chinese style " Jian" sword.
I had never seen the Korean straight double edge sword up close. My questions are
1. Is the korean version of " Jian " sword has a wider blade and longer handle in comparison to the Chinese ones?
2. Has anyone use such sword for HDGD practise ? Of course I understood its differences but just out of curiosity.
Thanks
Johan

The sword types are essentially the same. There are some decorative differences in authentic pieces, and I have noticed a slight trend toward thicker handles in Korean weaponry than in that of neighboring countries. This basic format, ignoring the element of style, appears in many parts of the globe.
Of course, movie swords are just that - accuracy is a secondary or tertiary concern.
Haidong Gumdo does not offer instruction in this weapon. Styles that do include Choseon Sebub, and Taeguk Geom [Taiji Jian}.
